Baby Matthew

A week early & a stop start labour later, we welcomed our beautiful little man into the world. The newborn bubble was just magical. The excitement that he was finally here. And now that he had a bedroom just in the nick of time – although as Martin points out, he was always going to be in our room for the first 6 months so it wasn’t really that essential…
As you can imagine, sleepless nights put a stop to a lot of the work we had hoped to get finished. But thankfully, we were able to plough ahead with some of the more essential outside jobs such as moving the pump house for our well to ensure our water wouldn’t freeze during winter. This involved digging up a trench from the current shed to our new one at the back of the house. Martin then set to work building a small insulated room in the shed to make sure that the temperatures remained at the right level & to house all the equipment needed for a pump house.
The next most exciting thing to arrive was the new lawn mower. Having a cup holder & lights is apparently on the must have list when it comes to purchasing a new mower. I think the mower made it into the shed for a mer 2 hours, while we had visitors for baby Matthew. As soon as they had left it was broken out & every feature played with.
While Martin worked on the outside jobs, I spent my time hogging newborn cuddles & online shopping for the house & baby. At the time we were worried about how we would get certain rooms completed. But now in hindsight, we are delighted we didn’t just rush through it. We have made a lot of changes to the style & design we originally wanted. We have changed the uses of some of the rooms that had been ‘set in stone’ & currently work much better for us with a small baby.
My first dive back into the renovations was cutting in the new paint for the hall. The warm tone of Fleetwood’s Easyclean Washable paint in Powdered Almond was perfect against our black doors & ivory white trim. Between us we managed to get this completed in 2 weeks in between naps & bedtime. To see the yellow paint disappear was lovely!
