So, on moving into our house we didn’t really have a functioning bathroom. The main bathroom was fitted with a bath, sink & loo but there were leaks etc that needing addressing. The en suite also had a sink & loo but was in better shape, just needed a good scrub – bar keepers friend was incredible for lifting stubborn stains & is now a permeant fixed in the cleaning cupboard.
With 5 weeks to Baby Matthew’s due date we had to decide which bathroom to tackle first. I desperately wanted my bath! I have constantly promised myself since we first rented homes together back in 2015 that our next house would have a bath. 8 years later, we decided that the en suite was getting priority – the bath was still on hold! But it was the more practical option. We felt it was a smaller space & would be easier to finish and the bones of a working bathroom were already fitted. We also wanted to do a higher finish main bathroom which was going to take a lot longer in regards wait times on orders.
We spent time researching what finishes we wanted. Originally we wanted to go with tiles in just the shower surround. However, we contacted a number of tilers who just weren’t available in the timeframe we needed. We lived in Edinburgh briefly in 2014 & had a PVC panelled bathroom. It definitely wasn’t our first choice. But we were pleasantly surprised at the options now available, especially the non shiny choices. We also saved a lot of money here as Martin was able to install it with the help of family & friends. It is a click system that is glued to the wall. It does get a bit tricky in the corners & will require cutting to your measurements. It is finished with the usual PVC caps used for tiles. The only downfall here is the only option available in a lot of the brands this is white, where we would have preferred chrome or a similar colour to the panels we picked. There is also a lifespan on these panels so that is definitely something to bare in mind when choosing this option.

We decided to keep the current sanitary ware & just give it a good clean instead of replacing it. We probably will change it down the line but its perfectly functional at the moment. We also added a storage unit we had in our rented home to hold all our bits & bob, although this has seen better days it will be replaced with a sink that has built in drawers.
For the flooring, we just used some loose Lino to cover the concrete. We would like to tile the floor at some point so we are happy with this option for the time being.
We went with grey tones in this room as I want to add some house plants & olive tone towels to soften it & give it a natural look. The paint option we picked is Egyptian Cotton from Dulux mixed by Crown in their Scrubbable range. We found this was a softer grey & not cold/blue against the other colours we had chosen. So, for now, other than a little storage unit for the loo roll, this room is complete!
