Gallery Walls

Following on from our last article, I’m hoping to write about some popular trends we’re going to see over the next year. One I have always loved & don’t think it going anywhere is a gallery wall. Whether it is full of personal photos, quirky vintage frames or even movie posters, gallery walls can really give a pop of personality to an otherwise plain wall. Below are some of my favourite examples that I’ve come across while looking for inspiration for our own home.

Small Space Gallery Wall

If you’re short on space or just want to add a couple of featured photos to your hall or kitchen, start small. For interest add portraits & frames in different lengths or sizes. Include a photo mount to make the images stand out even more. And for a unique twist, why not wrap fabric over the photo mount in similar or clashing tones to your colour scheme for that room. My favourite tones for this at the moment are beige or khaki in a linen fabric.

Portrait Gallery Wall

If like me you love having your family snaps on display, pick a dedicated wall in your home where you can hang them all up. I love mismatched frames in the same colour e.g black or gold frames. I love to add different sized frames and some with photo mounts and so without. You can even add a sign in the middle of the wall with something like ‘Together is Our Favourite Place to Be’ – places like The Range may even stock these as wall hangings. Or just type out your favourite phrase, print it & then add to a different frame to the rest to make it stand out.

Pop Art Gallery Wall

If you have a particular interest or room dedicated to a hobby, why not frame some of your favourite parts about it? Whether you’re movie enthusiast and love a certain genre or a comic book person, you can easily create a personalised spot in your home. Pick a uniform number of your favourite items (3/9/12) and display them in perfect symmetry. It can create an interesting talking point or just add to a space e.g. old Hollywood movie posters displayed in your living room or Vinyl covers displayed beside your vintage record player.

Vintage Gallery Wall

Vintage has become more popular over the last number of years, particularly clashing it with more modern trends. Finding these unique pieces can be difficult, but nosing through your second hand shops or car boot sales could be a good starting point. You can keep the original images to pick up tones in the room you want to display them or use them to tie in other vintage items you might on display already.

Empty Frame Gallery Wall

I’ve seen this trend becoming so much more popular over the last couple of years, especially with different sized frames or even vintage ones. It is a particularly good option for a bathroom, where you might want to display some artwork but are worried the condensation might ruin it over time. Another option is to add some pressed flowers to the frame with a fabric background to bring the outside indoors, display some subtle colour or just have your favourite flowers on display all year round!
